Privateers
Pirate profiles start each chapter of
this book, to introduce the modern
actions that coincide today, four to
five centuries later. The first
peoples here were brown-skinned
natives, Lucayans and Caribs.
Columbus thought he found the
route to Asia's East Indies; so he
called the people Indians. The
island string was the West Indies,
and became known as the
Caribbean, named for the Carib
tribes. Some hundred years later
these island seas were havens for
Pirates, who started as Privateers
sent by European Governments,
but soon sailed off on their own, to
keep and bury the treasures for
themselves. Modern Pirates are
still marauding. Just last year, a
legendary America's Cup
yachtsman was killed while sailing
on the mysterious Amazon, by
Pirates. MORE ...
Blackbeard –
Edward Teach -- his real name –
was a monstrous brigand who
tied hemp into his beard and set
it afire during battle to strike fear
into his quarry. Armed with two
swords, pistols and knives, he
cowed even his own crew. When
his victims didn’t resist, he’d take
their booty and let them sail away.
If they put up a fight, he was a
raging monster,.slaughtering
men, women, children. He
captured the French gunship
Concorde and renamed her
Queen Anne’s Revenge. The
scourge of the American coast
and Caribbean, by 1718 he
commanded four warships and
300 pirates, captured 40 vessels,
killed hundreds of people. MORE...
Anne Bonny
Anne Bonny, the most famous
female Pirate, married James
Bonny, a brigand who tried to steal
her father’s plantation and was
reputedly a snitch for Nassau
Governor Woodes Rogers. She
tired of his traitorous behavior and
took up with Calico Jack Rackham,
Captain of the Revenge; but also
had a dalliance with Pirate Mary
Read, a reported Lesbian union.
Wearing men’s clothes they fought
with cutlass and pistol. The
Governor of Jamaica dispatched a
gunboat to capture them all. Both
women were pregnant, they
claimed, and were tried separately
from the men. Mary Read died
from malaria, while Anne later
recieved a pardon and
disappeared from Pirate history...

Captain Abraham
Blauvelt –
As in 007’s Dr. No, the Pirate
Blofeld – Blauvelt was a Privateer,
officer of the Swedish East India
Company who preyed on Spanish
ships. His headwaters soon
became the route from
New York to Jamaica's Port
Royal, as well as treasure ships
off the coasts of Nicaragua and
Honduras. He somehow wound
up living with the mystical Brazos
Indians at Cape Gracias a Dios in
Nicaragua. There he took up with
another Pirate, Captain Sir
Christopher Myngs, and
continued raiding the shipping
out of Campeche, Mexico. His
history disappears around 1663
and it is assumed he was lost at
sea. His name, however, still
graces the town of Bluefield,
Nicaragua... MORE...
